Isaiah Lewis letter book, 1819-1821.

Letter book of Captain Isaiah Lewis during a two-year voyage on board the ship Arab to acquire sandalwood in the Sandwich Islands to sell in Canton, China. Lewis's letters date from December 21, 1819 to August 6, 1821 and were addressed to his Boston partners Bordman & Pope, to his second officer John Scoville, and to Lynch, Hill & Co. of Valparaiso, Chile. The letters document the difficulties and successes that Lewis encountered in the triangular trade between Boston, the Pacific coasts of North and South America, and China.
